From the Introduction<\/em><\/p>\n

We are here so that together we may follow Jesus on his way of love, his way of the Cross. We are going to follow him step by step through his Passion, as the Gospel of St. Mark describes it to us, beginning at Gethsemane.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1st<\/sup> Station<\/h5>\n

JESUS IN THE GARDEN ON THE MOUNT OF OLIVES<\/p>\n

They went to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to<\/em> his disciples, “Sit here while I pray. ”
\nHe took with him Peter and James and John, and began<\/em> to be distressed and agitated. And<\/em> said to them, “I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain<\/em> here, and keep awake.”
\nAnd going a little further, he threw himself on the ground<\/em> and prayed that, if it were possible,<\/em> the hour might pass from him. He said, “Abba, Father,<\/em> for you all things are possible; remove<\/em> this cup from me; yet, not what I want, but what you<\/em> want.\u00a0\u201c
\n<\/em>Mark 14.32-36<\/p>\n

After having eaten the Passover
\nwith your disciples, O Jesus,
\nand instituted with them the Holy Supper
\nyou go down with them, as was your custom
\ninto the valley of the Kidron,
\nand climb the Mount of Olives.<\/p>\n

This time you stop at Gethsemane, the place known as “the oil press”.<\/p>\n

Your disciples are afraid.
\nWhat has happened to that glow of intimacy,
\nthat communion which they have just experienced with you
\nin the Upper Room,
\nwhen you were praying for them and for their unity?<\/p>\n

Bewildered, they fall asleep,
\nweighed down by their sadness.<\/p>\n

But you, Jesus, tonight you know
\nthat your hour has come;
\nthis hour you have longed for so ardently;
\nnow it fills you with dread
\nto the very depths of your human heart.<\/p>\n

You want to go all the way to the extremity of Love \u2026
\nbut you are submerged by tremendous anguish
\nat the idea of being utterly handed over to evil,
\nto be torn to pieces
\nlike a lamb, prostrate beneath the sin of the world \u2026<\/p>\n

All your being has become supplication:
\n\u201cAbba, Father, if you are willing,
\nremove this cup from me!”
\nBut your heart is still the heart of a Son:
\n\u201cYes, not what I want
\nbut what you want!\u201d
\nAfter beseeching God three times, you stand up again.
\nNow your yes mobilises your whole being,
\nyour human being incorporating
\nyour Father\u2019s will to love to the very end.<\/p>\n

Father,
\nmay your Holy Spirit open our wills to yours,
\nthat we may have the strength to watch and pray
\nwith Jesus in his struggle with evil.
\nAnd, having shared in his suffering,
\nmay we be enabled to know
\nthe power of his Resurrection.<\/em><\/p>\n
